Based on first-hand knowledge gained from Tropical Storm Allison, Houstonians ought to know that it is important to always get flood-plain information before purchasing any piece of property.
The Tropical Storm Allison Recovery Project website, www.tsarp.org, has an easy to use, color-coded interactive map with detailed “Floodway”, “100 yr”, and “500 yr” floodplains in Harris County.
From the TSARP website:
This tool now includes information about appeals and protests as well as allowing the user to view both the new preliminary information and other additional layers of information such as the current effective FEMA floodplains, 2 foot and 10 foot elevation contours, aerial photos, and more layers. However, this map does not qualify as an official FEMA Preliminary FIRM. Click here to use the Interactive Mapping Tool.
You really have to zoom in pretty close to get detailed street information which can be a pain if you do not already know the street address of the property, but in general this tool can be very beneficial.

With the rapid growth or northwest Houston, we wanted to create a web community that was more than your typical real estate web site dedicated to sell you Realtor services. As for me, I have been working in the technology industry, specifically web development, since I graduated with an engineering degree from Texas A&M in 1996. As a licensed REALTOR in the state of Texas, I have noticed a lack of unique and creative web sites and technical tools in the real estate industry especially in the state of Texas. It is my intent that this site will evolve from a simple Cypress, Texas real estate blog as it is today to a site that includes several real estate tools to help with your home buying or selling experience. In addition to my technical and real estate background, my wife and I own a Big League Haircuts franchise in northwest Houston, and I am a member of the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce.
